Spyglass Hill Villa Anguilla – My Ultimate Place to Relax & Reset

Written by:

Have you ever needed a vacation after a vacation?

I recently got the chance to experience an exhilarating party filled staycation. Although I thoroughly enjoyed vacationing with a group, I was exhausted.

For my birthday, I craved something different – a more intimate stay. When I was invited to stay at the exquisite and revitalizing Spyglass Hill Villa, I was ecstatic and jumped at the chance.

You might think revitalizing is an odd choice of word but I guarantee nothing could be more fitting. Here are my reasons why Spyglass is the best place to relax and reset.

You had me at hello

My journey towards rejuvenation began before check-in. From first contact with the Spyglass team, you can tell these are hospitality experts who absolutely love what they do.

The team’s follow-up on booking was timely, questions regarding guest preferences were thoughtful and the knowledge regarding local excursions and dining, extensive.  After learning I would be celebrating my birthday, Janine (the owner) went above and beyond to secure exclusive rates for private spa treatments, catering and other speciality experiences that would make my stay extraordinary.

I felt at ease and welcomed before I stepped through the door.

Leave your worries at the door

On the actual day of check-in, I was a mess! Vacations are great but the logistics of modern travel can be a nightmare. Like all responsible adults, I didn’t pack until the night before and I had outstanding work.

My anxiety levels were sky high but walking through the gates of Spyglass’s warm Anguilla stone walls toward the welcoming smile of the villa concierge, Erlene, rum punch and cool scented cloth in hand. I left my worries behind.

The welcome team had prepared a delicious complimentary fruit platter, rum punch jug and snacks for me and my guests. After my surprise at their special birthday gift of balloons and wine and my formal introduction to the extremely well stocked honesty bar- The shift from stressed to relaxed was inevitable.

Relaxed Luxury

It is obvious, Spyglass revels in its caribbean roots.

The villa’s indoor-outdoor living spaces take full advantage of the warm sea breeze and the sunny skies of the tropics. The sun-kissed wood features and bamboo floors throughout the residence compliment the comfortable coastal inspired decor.

My guest and I fell in love with the treasure chests and captains’ wheels tastefully incorporated into the four bedroom property, a subtle nod to the buccaneer origins of its name.

I spy with my little eye

Spyglass is perched on a cliffside overlooking one of the most breathtaking scenes in the Caribbean. Perfectly situated to appreciate 180 degree views of the sailing village of Sandy Ground. The villa is nestled between the historic great salt pond and the soothing waves of the Caribbean Sea.

Everything you need

The two master suites located on the second floor take full advantage of the spectacular surroundings with private balconies built for canoodling under the stars with a cold glass of wine and a loved one.

A couple’s retreat with the bestie is highly recommended as each master suite is equipped with king sized beds, jacuzzi and outdoor showers ensuring equal opportunity to enjoy the romantic atmosphere.

The property is spacious which makes it great for reconnecting with family. The residence boasts a guest twin bedroom (easily converted to a king) with en-suite bathroom on the main floor and entertainment suite on the lower floor.

Although I didn’t stay in the entertainment studio I could see how the self-contained suite could be a hit with older children who love their parents but treasure their privacy and sanity.

For my more active friends and family members there was a fitness centre adjacent to the entertainment room and retractable ping pong table.

A modern fully equipped kitchen and comfortable open plan living and dining make Spyglass the ideal space for entertaining any size celebration.

A view like no other

Undoubtedly, the ‘piece di resistance’ is the large deck where the azure blues of the pool meld seamlessly into the ocean.

My small circle lost track of time watching the blue fade into the fiery orange hues of dusk, mesmerized by the living portrait of island life.

Let your hair down

At night the breeze carries the soft hum of music. The sound a gentle reminder that Sandy Ground is the entertainment hub of Anguilla.

We were spoilt with the range of activities we could experience just a stone’s throw away. In a 5 minute drive we could savour the awarding wining culinary delights of Veya, dance in the sand at the world-famous Elvis beach bar, have a quiet lunch at Roy’s Bayside grill or day trip to the beautiful Sandy Island.

Spyglass is the perfect home base to let go and simply enjoy Anguilla.

Built from the heart

Spyglass is not anonymously managed by some distant corporate entity. The villa was designed and built by Sunset Homes Anguilla which is run by an inspirational husband and wife team.

Ian “Sugar George” Edwards has been involved with the design, construction and development of some of the most acclaimed and prestigious property developments in the Caribbean region.

Janine Edwards has a stellar background in Business and Tourism and has received several honours and accolades over the years for her work in tourism and the local community.

Spyglass Hill was completed in 2003 and was the second luxury home built by the pair that went on to design properties such as The Beach House and Tranquility Beach Resort.

Spyglass Hill underwent a major refurbishment after Hurricane Irma. Janine and Ian’s combined design, construction and tourism expertise permeate all aspects of a stay in this lovely villa.

Spyglass and its team are certified safe and ready to welcome guests for the 2020-2021 season. If you grant yourself one reward this year give yourself and your loved ones a chance to relax, reset and embrace a stay at Spyglass Villa.
