How to celebrate a holiday in Anguilla

Here is what you can expect when you are in Anguilla on a special holiday.

Superbowl

There are many options to relax and enjoy the big game. From Straw Hat’s big screen Superbowl party on gorgeous Meads Bay to big screens at all the major resorts.

Easter

Easter is faith filled and fun filled in Anguilla. Anguillians hold firm to Christian beliefs and observe Christian traditions and holidays.

The Lenten season, Good Friday (a quiet, public holiday) and Easter Sunday are recognised and celebrated with church services and events across the island, open to everyone.

During the Easter weekend (Saturday and Sunday), Festival Del Mar draws everyone to Island Harbour village for delicious seafood, live music, fishing competitions and more.

On Easter Monday (also a public holiday), the anticipated A-Class Egbert Connor Boat Race begins and ends at Sandy Ground.

If a quiet Easter weekend is preferred, Easter brunch, lunch or dinners are served at restaurants.

There are also plenty of fun activities geared towards the kids. Easter is traditionally kite-flying season. A kite-making experience can be booked with Quest Experiences or kites can be bought from local vendors. If flying kites, be aware of safe, designated flying areas.

Fun and exciting Easter egg hunts with face painting and other activities are organised by Tranquility Beach and many others.

Halloween

Sandy Ground, especially Roy’s Bayside Grill is the spookiest, most fun place to be for Halloween. Kids can look forward to face painting, trick-or-treating and prizes. The whole family joins in the fun.

Thanksgiving

Anguilla has adopted the spirit of Thanksgiving. Delicious Thanksgiving meals and menus are available at all the resorts and most restaurants. Menus will be published a week or so in advance.

Festive

The festive season brims with hope and excitement. Church services are held on Christmas morning and New Year’s Eve. All are invited.

The Lion’s Community Christmas Tree Lighting is a highlight of the Christmas season. Coronation Avenue is illuminated with dazzling Christmas lights. Activities and events ranging from local band performances to Christmas fairs are held here during the season.

The South Hill community offers an impressive display of lights and Christmas decorations during its annual Christmas lights competition. Restaurants and private homes compete to win the prize. Walk through the community to enjoy the sights. The South Hill Christmas Experience held on 19th December is a celebration of local food and traditions including johnny cakes from the Rock Oven.

Santa and Mrs. Claus

Enjoy special Christmas menus at your favourite restaurants. Do not fear. Santa comes to visit the little ones at many different locations – check with your concierge for details.

On old year’s night ring in the new year with buffets, special menus and concerts at Aurora Anguilla Resort Entertainment Complex and brilliant displays of fireworks at Meads Bay, Sandy Ground and Rendezvous Bay.

There are plenty of parties to choose from. New Year’s Day in Anguilla is quiet, but most restaurants will be open for breakfast.

The best news is the beaches in Anguilla are open every holiday, all day and all year round. Relax and enjoy your time here.

Happy holidays!
