Trudy Nixon staycations at one of Anguilla’s most desirable addresses – Tranquility Beach Resort.

Do you dream of sunning yourself, steps from the sea and barefoot on the beach? And at the same time crave the luxurious lines of a sleek, contemporary penthouse – replete with cooling a/c, designer interiors and the sort of appliances you have had on your wish list for far too long?

Then Tranquility Beach Resort provides just that heady mix.

The Penthouse at Tranquillity Beach makes you feel like a movie star!

I took a staycation there recently – and was lucky enough to stay in the third floor, ocean front penthouse. It was amazing. I live in Anguilla’s West End, just a 3-minute drive from Mead’s Bay, but staying at Tranquility Beach transported me to a whole new world.

Here are some of the things I loved the most*

Balcony Bliss

The spacious balcony of the penthouse is an exceptional piece of beachfront real estate. Hands down it was one of the most glamourous places I have ever experienced.  The glass walls give you uninterrupted views of Meads Bay and when that blue embraces you – you feel as if you are swimming in the air.

The balcony is a multi-experience haven. You can sunbathe, dip, dine and relax on it – and I found it incredibly difficult to leave. Only the siren song of the sea and charms of Meads Bay could prise me off.

The deep and delicious hot tub, which I nick named the Tru-cuzzi, was one of the most decadent experiences of my life.

I relaxed in it in the early morning to drink my tea and watch joggers and walkers exercise on the sands.

Watching the early morning show! Instead of waking up to news I watched the daily ‘beach fit’ pageant from the balcony.

At midday I slipped in to work on my tan ‘au naturel’ as the sun crept onto the western end of the balcony and it was a great spot to watch the sun set and toast another perfect day.

Then at night, we would hang out, chatting and drinking in the bubbling, illuminated water – commenting on the beauty of the twinkling lights up and down the bay. I can only imagine the glamour levels when the mega yachts grace Meads Bay with their company.

But my absolute favourite spot was the huge day bed at the eastern end of the balcony. A deep comfortable mattress that was warmed by the sun and cooled by ocean breezes.

It was perfect for reading, daydreaming or even sleeping, for those, like me, that can think of no greater luxury than to spend the night safely under the stars.

Delightful Design

I absolutely loved the décor by Natalie Sheedy of Sheedy De La Rosa Interiors. The reason being was not only did it look gorgeous, but everything felt great too. I love furniture that utilises soft, natural textures.

I coveted the white and blue floor to ceiling linen curtains and the shell and bronze pendent lights in my bedroom. I was very comfortable relaxing on the sofas.

I enjoyed seeing different colours in each bedroom and the plentiful use of mirrors to reflect the ocean and the abundant light. I loved preparing meals in the kitchen. Outside the porch furniture looked good and functioned better.

Cool and Hot

There is a coolness to the design, but the result is warm.  Architectural Designer Ian ‘Sugar George’ Edward’s modern minimalistic interiors with floor to ceiling glass could feel cold at night. But when you pull the heavy curtains and blinds, the subtle wall colours, statement headboards, accent lighting and plentifully cushions transform the rooms to cosy in seconds. With the A/C on and cuddled under the duvet, or curled up on the sofa, it had such a homey feeling.

Uber cool interiors, like this one bedroom ground floor unit transition to warm and cosy when the drapes are drawn.

Sexy Time

This may be too much information for you dear reader, but I am going to tell you that Tranquility Beach brought out the James Brown in me. There was something very sensual about my penthouse (see how I have staked a claim on it).

Was it because the beds were fantastic? Or that the bathrooms were so luxurious? With huge baths and showers, film star lighting around the double sinks, fluffy white robes, and the softest towels I have had the pleasure of wrapping myself in for some time.

And then there was the coconut lime shower gel which meant I smelt absolutely delicious. Or maybe it was all that time in the Tru-cuzzi?

And it is not just me. I polled some other friends who had enjoyed staycations at Tranquility Beach throughout our long hot Anguilla summer and they said the same.

Beach House

Tranquility Beach Resort’s very best bit? It’s position on Meads Bay of course.

The location means that EVERY unit in the resort is just a handful of steps away from the white sands and turquoise waters of what many consider to be Anguilla’s best beach. And which everyone agrees is Anguilla’s most desirable neighbourhood for access to fabulous restaurants and activities.

Personal sun loungers, beach service and of course the choice of popping back to your unit or strolling to neighbouring restaurants like Blanchards for frozen drinks and lunch (2 minutes’ walk – I timed it) make for the ultimate beach day.

Try Before You Buy Then Lock and Leave

If you would love a permanent home on Meads Bay one day, try booking a ‘stay-in-place’ vacation this season. They have reduced their rates for a short time and high season rates range between $475 USD a night for the one bed ground floor unit to $2,750 USD a night for the 3-bed penthouse I stayed in.

This is a great opportunity to try before you potentially buy and meet the lovely team who work at the resort.

Even though COVID has curtailed some activities, Tranquility Beach guests can still while away hours swimming and sunning on Meads Bay as well as take advantage to their proximity to Straw Hat and other restaurants that are part of the Meads Bay bubble. You can also book boat trips, go on nature walks, play golf, and take part in a growing list of safe certified activities.

Each condo offers beach access and dedicated loungers, as well as being fully equipped with all the things that made me fall in love with the penthouse – including sexy bathrooms and your own Tru-cuzzi – making them the ultimate beach pad.

There has been an increase in Real Estate enquiries since the onset of COVID and the team expects to see a surge post-election from those who want to get away from it all and linger longer in Anguilla.

I am not surprised. After my visit it is easy to see that purchasing at Tranquility Beach is a unique, no hassle way to own property in one of Anguilla’s best addresses. For those who love condo living and want a unit you, your family and friends can use on one of the world’s best beaches – it is a no brainer. Condos start at $650,000 USD and go up.

Living your best life at Tranquillity Beach Resort is easy.

*I stayed in the 3 bedroom penthouse on the top floor of the first building but most of the things I loved the most, as well as fully equipped kitchens and laundry facilities, can also be found in the more modestly sized and priced one-bedroom and two-bedroom units.
