Anguilla National Trust (ANT)
The Anguilla National Trust is Anguilla’s leading environmental nongovernmental organisation, focused on protecting, conserving and promoting Anguilla’s amazing and awe-inspiring natural, cultural and built heritage.
TRUE Anguilla asked Programme manager Farah Mukhida to give us an insight into some of their current projects.
Fountain National Park
With the help of the Government of Anguilla and one of the world’s leading international nongovernmental organisations, Fauna & Flora, we’re transforming Anguilla’s largest terrestrial protected area into the region’s first mainland island: an island on an island, protected by a pest-proof, storm-resistant fence, free of invasive species, a sanctuary for native and endangered species, and a place where visitors can come to experience and appreciate Anguilla’s natural and cultural heritage in all its restored glory.
Road Salt Pond
Road Salt Pond is one of Anguilla’s most iconic landscapes and we’re working with the Sandy Ground community and the Government of Anguilla to protect it. We’re restoring wetland habitats and keeping invasive species at bay. We’re also creating nesting grounds for visiting and resident birdlife and exploring how we can grow our flamingo population from a single visiting bird to a full colony that calls Anguilla – and Road Salt Pond – home.
Native Iguanas
In 2016, we began a journey to protect one of Anguilla’s most endangered reptiles, the Lesser Antillean iguana, from extinction. To do this, we moved every native iguana we could find from the Anguilla mainland – where their very survival was being threatened by invasive species and habitat loss – to Prickly Pear East. With a starting population of just 33 individuals, numbers have more than tripled to over 100 in less than 10 years.
We’re continuing to work with these marvelous creatures to ensure that their population continues to thrive. This is an incredible success story and one that we’re so proud of. All our work is for the benefit of Anguilla’s heritage and people. Your membership, donations and support help us to achieve these important conservation successes.
AXA ITF Taekwondo
XA ITF Taekwondo has been Anguilla’s leading martial arts school since 2001. Committed to excellence and tradition, its programme emphasises the core values of taekwondo: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit. By fostering character development, students excel both in and out of the dojang.
The school’s athletes consistently achieve success at regional and international competitions, including the 2023 New York Taekwondo Tournament, where they brought home multiple gold, silver and bronze medals.

Through these efforts, the Anguilla Red Cross embodies its international principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality.
Anguilla Sailing Association
Founded in 2003, the Anguilla Sailing Association (ASA) was created by volunteers to pass on Anguilla’s national sport – sailing – to the next generation.
The Anguilla Youth Sailing Club (AYSC) offers programmes for children and adults, equipping them with lifelong skills while preserving the island’s rich sailing tradition. Many AYSC graduates now sail on local racing boats. Committed to accessibility, the ASA ensures every child interested in sailing can participate, offering scholarships to around 70% of students.
Instructor Kenny, who has been with AYSC since its inception, is a passionate mentor. A former US collegiate sailor and captain of two racing boats, Upsetter and Light and Peace, he is dedicated to teaching Anguilla’s youth the joys of sailing and boat racing.
18 Degrees
18 Degrees is a passionate nonprofit dedicated to preserving and promoting the vibrant tradition of classic Anguilla boat racing.
They sponsor five races annually and support the AYSC in their endeavours to ensure the next generation carries on this iconic sport.
To fund their mission, 18 Degrees creates and sells unique beach bags crafted from repurposed race boat sails, stylish rash guards, hats and tumblers.
